Gym Demo

Bond Update 7-18-2024

You may have noticed but the old classrooms and gym have been taken down and removed from the school site by American Demolition. They have been a great partner on this project and easy to work with. While we will miss the history and meaning behind the old building, it was necessary and more cost efficient to have it removed than to try and repair. As it came down, we found numerous surprises that would have not been budget friendly or healthy to our students/staff. The staff have worked tirelessly this summer to save and salvage as much history as possible and we have incorporated it into areas throughout campus so that although it may be gone, it is not forgotten.

Looking forward we have a few punch list items that will take place over the next few weeks to wrap up that phase of our project. These include some sidewalk replacements, trim work, regrading for run-off, installing sod and fencing to better secure the area as a playground and for outdoor recess. Plans are in place to have this completed prior to school starting.

Tuesday, we opened the bidding period for Phase II which is the bathroom remodeling projects. We will accept bids later in August and will work with the awarded bidder to plan remodels throughout the school this fall with minimal interruptions to our students and staff. We look forward to updating these areas. These remodels will help the school become more ADA compliant, save on water and electrical usage and improve ventilation and cleaning access.

Later is fall, when temperatures calm down, we will start the roofing projects. These can be done during school and will take about three weeks from start to finish to complete. This will be Phase III of our bond projects and after the wet summer we are looking forward to having dry classrooms.

Phase IV will be the major overhaul of the cafeteria kitchen and common area. We had hoped to have this project complete before school this year but after evaluating time and resources we felt it was better to hold off and complete it during the summer of 2025 than to risk the chance of it not being complete for the start of school. From start to finish this will take about 60 days to complete. When complete we will have an updated cafeteria kitchen and new dining haul. The upgrades to electrical, plumbing, HVAC and waste management will give us place that is efficient and staff for our students. Plans are to have this bid opened and awarded by April so that resources and materials came be in and ready to use the week after school lets out in May.

Again, THANK YOU for allowing us the opportunity to upgrade our facilities for our students and staff as well as the future of Coyle Public Schools.
